Choose onsite or remote interpreting services

You can select either onsite or remote interpreting services suited to your particular requirements. What do you need from your service?

  1.  On-demand availability: a consecutive remote interpreter can be with you essentially on-demand for appointments or meetings via phone or online software.
  2. Affordability: choosing simultaneous remote interpretation for events can be a highly cost-effective alternative.
  3. Convenience: remote interpreting can be delivered through audience smartphone apps and other convenient tools.

Opt for consecutive or simultaneous medical interpreters

Interpreting can be delivered in several different ways, usually referred to as “modes”. The two most common modes are simultaneous and consecutive.

Which of these is best for you will largely depend on the type of event or appointment you need language support for:

  •  Simultaneous interpreting: is most ideal for speeches and presentations. The speaker doesn’t need to pause in what they are saying. Audience members wear headphones or earpieces so they can hear the linguist’s verbal translation while the speaker speaks.
  • Consecutive interpreting: is often best for appointments, meetings and other situations where there is going to be some back and forth between parties. The speaker speaks a couple of sentences, then there is a pause for the linguist to translate. After this, the first speaker can speak some more, or allow the next speaker to respond.

Medical interpreting services provide sensitivity and care

Your linguist will often be with you at times which call for sensitivity as well as discretion. As a former or practising healthcare professional themselves, they understand how important it is to act with care and professionalism at all times.

Clients who use the same linguist multiple times – over a protracted course of treatment, for example – often come to rely on their medical interpreter for support and end up building a friendly relationship with them.

It’s just the kind of thing you need at what can be a worrying or stressful time.

Count on complete confidentiality

Because of the sensitive information which is often disclosed and discussed in the medical field, all of our medical translators are happy to sign Non-Disclosure Agreements before they start working with you.

You might need to keep certain product information vital to the commercial success of your company under lock and key. Or simply maintain that key doctor-patient confidentiality.

Whatever it is, your information is safe with us.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of medical interpreting services are there?

There are three general types of medical interpreting services, generally based on the mode of communication used:

  1. In-person– your language specialist is standing right beside you, able to see you and the person you need to communicate with and easily interject to aid understanding on either side.
  2. OPI (Over-the-Phone Interpreting)– provided by phone, the limitations of this type of service delivery obviously mean that your linguist will not be able to see you or the other person in the conversation. They can overcome this by listening to verbal cues, but this requires a high degree of listening skills.
  3. VRI (Video Remote Interpreting)– by having both visual and audio feeds, VRI enables your language specialist to act much more easily than if you were relying on OPI. Using a camera, microphone and suitable software, your linguists can see important visual indicators almost as well as if they were there in person.

In all cases, language specialists who work in the field of medicine and healthcare should be among the most highly trained of their kind. Asian Absolute, for example, will only hire medical interpreters who are highly experienced in the relevant field and/or qualified to at least Masters Degree level in the relevant subject. That’s in addition to their mastery of both languages involved.

When would I need medical interpreters?

There is a broad range of situations where this type of language service is useful. This could include any of the following cases:

  • To make communication between patients and clinicians clear in all areas – from GPs and family doctors to critical care
  • Creating instructional packages for medical equipment
  • Marketing and advertising campaigns
  • Medical conferences and seminars
